This is an excerpt from a movie that I love called Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I love this scene. It is the only fight scene I have ever seen that I wanted to watch again and again. I do believe we can find a way in our humanness to understand in all of our being that we are connected to all things and part of everything and that that understanding is the key to knowing gravity in a different way. I believe children can be taught to be more connected to all things than adults cemented in their convictions that separation is more powerful than connection can ever be. This little clip is fantasy of a reality that I actually think is possible. I also think you can teach yourself to step beyond expected parameters and still be a person who is conflicted. This is a complicated scene that talks to me about striving to understand the power of the self and the infinite. I do think we can fly!

Our creative process has evolved a lot as our team has evolved. This is what our collection boards look like. We move the mini mock ups of the pieces we are designing around on the board and find our matching out fits and plan delivery to store dates so that when the items finally come to you they are ready to pop into your wardrobe as single items or even better as complete outfits.
These are mock ups of our March first delivery group. Lots of black and white accented with roses. Pops of garden green and lime with fuschia and hot pink and peachy rose. Playful pieces to prep you for a great summer ahead.

How cool is it to have a day dedicated to love. Isn’t everyday? Shouldn’t it be that there is only one day a year to celebrate our conflicts because every moment we live is a chance to celebrate that we love.
Every year I try to think up some very simple way to say I love you to as many people as I can on Valentines day.
Today is a good day to leave anonymous love notes in all your neighbors mail boxes. It is a good day to stand on the street corner a give away 100 roses to random strangers. It is a good day to say thank you lots.
Here is a video I have offered you before but here it is again because it is great to watch on Valentine’s day.
When you give the gift of love you give a gift to your self.

Elisabeth Giorux is a powerhouse of creativity. A force to be reckoned with. She is a passionate hobby photographer of nature, a eccentric and powerful designer of jewelry and an accomplished musician. Come discover the artist behind the creative abundance tonight at the boutique!
We will be celebrating this amazing artists with wine and refreshments. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge at the door and Elisabeth will share with us the incredible new collection of jewelry she is working on as well as offering us the treat of a moment of her cello playing.
My friend Vimala is a true eccentric and her amazingness only grows with age.

South African by birth, today she lives the life of a hermit near the holy mountain Arunachala in the south of India.
Ten years ago when we first met, Vimala picked up a brush for the first time.
Her entire life she’d been convinced that she “couldn’t paint” but her mystical and whimsical paintings had a different opinion and were impatiently waiting to materialize.
[pic – painted self portrait “3rd Eye Kung Fu”]
Needless to say, Vimala hasn’t put the brush down since.
In 2008 we went to Mexico and there, inspired by the vibrant art and handicraft scene of Oaxaca, Vimala told me her paintings “refused to be hidden under [her] bed any longer”. She began a quest that would finally turn into the most amazing and original pillow art I’ve ever seen.
[pic – “Kiss to Frida Kahlo”]
She found a family in war-torn Kashmir, that were brave enough to join her. applying their traditional hookwork skills to make pillow art, translating designs so unlike any they were used to.
The entire extended family is involved in the production. They dye the wool themselves, the women do the hookwork and the men then stitch the actual covers together. This tradition has been handed down many generations and even though they work extremely fast, due to their many years of experience, it still takes two full days to complete one cushion cover.
They start off with the colours as per Vimala’s original design and then change the colours completely. Each different colour combination changes the vibration and look of the cushion completely. Only a few of each colour combination gets made, so they always look a little different and it is a constantly evolving work. They never mass produce any combination.

Fairy tails, legend, magical and mystical creatures; all these wonders offer us some truths along with their fantasy. Stories of our values, our humanness, our wishes and our fears.
To me, the stories of dragons and unicorns are documents of extinction. They tell us the story of how humans have chased, killed, controlled, feared or encroached on creatures environments so much that they became rarer and rarer until they disappeared. They tell us the story of how we chased away the bigness that scared us till we could tell our selves that we were bigger than it all.
This is my mother standing in the buzz of New York wearing her unicorn scarf by Katrin Leblond.
The city that’s magic is now it’s neon lights.
Where did all the stars go?
You cannot see them at all for all the city lights.
What does that mean?
One day, we will tell our children fairy tails about how in another time and another world the sky at night was a dark velvet cloak and it was covered in bright twinkling sparks of light that whispered to children that could see them that the universe was vast and never ending and they were part of it all.

- This Frida inspired art is made by Lulu an artist from Frelighsburg, Southern Quebec, Canada.
- I found these sweet paintings while trolling the E world for things to share with you.
- Lulu writes in her blog:
- I love my life… I love my son Ulysse and my husband Francois and my entire family. I love painting and collaging and drawing and illustrating. I love animals of all kinds, which explains why we have 5 cats, 3 dogs, 6 hens, 2 roosters, an hermit-crab and a turtle. I love colors, I love gardening, I love Mexico. I am French, I live in Southern Quebec about 5 minutes from the Vermont border. I love to laugh and I am pretty much always in a good mood. I talk a lot, this comes from my dad but I hate the telephone. I love nature, bird nests, rocks, old rusty things. I am curious and will try anything new I have not tried yet. I love staying in my studio late at night to paint mermaids, fairies, angels, cats, Frida, flowers and so many other things. I speak French, English and enough Spanish to get around. I can not live without the ocean and the beach, gotta go taste the salty water at least once a year. I love pink, I love skulls and skeletons, I love frogs and toads. I love black licorice and white chocolate. I love to hike the mountains around and I love to drive my old Volvo. I love my life…
- With Lulu’s art you can capture a reminder of a great person in an cute decoration for hanging in your kitchen or hallway or bathroom.
Sometimes Kat wonders why Frida is such a powerful Icon to so many people… so many women. “In many ways she was strong, courageous, political and creative, but in many ways she was also injured, heartbroken and self-deprecating ” Says Kat.
Kat admires her because of how she faced life with a fierce passion.
I admire her because she tried to tell the story she knew. The story of her self. There are few things more honest than that. She didn’t try to pretty her life she tried to tell it the way she felt it.
When I was younger I wanted my art to be truthful and because I felt I could never assume I knew everything about anyone the most truthful art I could make would have to be what I felt about myself. I ended up doing a lot of self portrait. In fact one of Kat’s and my first creative collaborative efforts involved her photographing me for a self portrait I was creating about the pain I was feeling in breaking up with my first love. I eventually titled the self portrait Offering. I think it is still the best most truthful painting I have ever made.
Frida’s very personal work ended up making powerful political statements about women, about art itself, about her community, her country, about nature and the environment, about spirit, about sexuality, and our relationship with ourselves.
I admire Frida for her deep concern for the world around her. I admire her for her belief that art is in everything you do. She used to ask her students to set the table and prepare the food and arrange the table with the same consciousness they would paint a painting. Both were of equal artistic value to her. That is amazing.
Discovering Frida affirmed for me many of my own ideas about my own art.
She was unapologetic.
She was politically fierce. Despite what Hollywood would have you believe… She died because she went to a protest against the American occupation while she was already sick. She was willing to die for her convictions.
The earth, it’s people…justice, peace mattered to Frieda.
Kat’s mother wants her to name a daughter Frida (Kat doesn’t have any children yet and isn’t pregnant but Barbara will be ready!).
some more paintings by Lulu:
The flaming heart really gets me. I love it!
It is cute, folkloric and yet retains the traditional iconography of Mexico.
This brings to mind the Day of the Dead. November is a Time of remembering our ancestors. Kat suggests you go take a walk on the mountain in the cemetery to enjoy the falling leaves.
Happy Autumn!
Thank you Frida for reminding us to be honest with our selves, to live life, to never deny the body, to love passionately, to never give up, to live what you believe in.
